Are Lethargy And Excessive Sleep Normal For An Elderly Person?
My dad is 83 . He sleeps up to 18 hours a day and when he is awake he acts very lethargic . He just had a physical and we were told everything is fine . We do not really care for his doctor . He just seems to pass things off . Could he have had a stroke or anything else ?

Are Lethargy And Excessive Sleep Normal For An Elderly Person?
Hello, Let me tell you that everyone feels tired sometimes. In fact, nearly a third of people aged 51 and up experience fatigue. But feeling tired for weeks at a time and don’t feel refreshed after a good night’s sleep, there might be an underlying cause. Let me also add that at the age of 83 this is not abnormal. A tablet containing multi vitamins and minerals can be started once daily as a supplement. Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Prabhash Verma
