Are Loss Of Sense Of Taste And Dry Mouth Symptoms Of Sinus Infection?

Would a sinus infection effect the taste buds and give a dry mouth. This has been going on for about a year. My sister have had numerous blood tests, MRI and CT scans of the head but all is negative. She gets a dry mouth and swollen glands under the jaw.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like there is some problems with the salivary glands leading to dry mouth and swollen lymph nodes.
It can be secondary to Infection..
But you should also consult a Physician or a Rheumatologist and get evaluated for Sjogren's syndrome that is an autoimmune disease and can cause similar symptoms..
For now you can chew sugar free chewing gum and suck lemon drops for stimulating saliva flow..
You can also instil artificial saliva drops to lubricate the mouth .
Take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do cool compresses over the glands to reduce swelling .

Hope this helps .

Regards..
