Are Medications Advisable For Shingles Causing Oozing Blisters?

My husband has shingles and will be seeing the Dr tomorrow...but I am wondering how long it takes for all of the rash to present, and when does it hit it s peak? In regard to medication. What are your thoughts regarding taking it vs. not , and just letting the shingles run it s course. He s been breaking out for about a week. No other symptoms except itching and presenting blisters (some of which have already opened).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The herpes shingle will last for up to 2-4 weeks. You can be prescribed topical anti viral medication for early regression. Non-steroid anti inflammatory drug also can be prescribed. After 2 weeks blisters will start forming scab and will dried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
