Hi my daughter is 20 months old and had an MRI done for NF type 1. I have her results but I don’t know what they mean and I googled some stuff but it scared me can you tell me what it means? 1. No intracranial or orbital findings of neurofibromatosis type I. 2. Mild prominence of the lateral ventricles posteriorly, and slight prominence of extra-axial CSF spaces along the frontoparietal convexities. 3. Prominent fourth ventricle and cisterna magna. 4. Very small pars intermedia cyst, felt to be an incidental finding without clinical significance. Narrative CLINICAL HISTORY: 18-month-old with neurofibromatosis type I. COMPARISON: None PROCEDURE COMMENTS: MRI of the brain and orbital contents was performed before and after intravenous administration of gadolinium-based contrast. FINDINGS: The posterior aspects of the lateral ventricles are mildly prominent, left slightly greater than right. The remainder of the lateral ventricles as well as the third ventricle are normal in size. There is slight prominence of extra-axial CSF spaces along the frontoparietal convexities. Infratentorially, there is a prominent cisterna magna. The fourth ventricle is mildly enlarged, with widening of the midline fourth ventricular outflow tract. Parenchymal signal and morphology are otherwise normal. Specifically, there are no areas of abnormal T2 hyperintensity that are characteristically seen in the setting of neurofibromatosis type I. The myelination pattern is age-appropriate. There are no foci of abnormal enhancement or restricted diffusion in the brain parenchyma. A tiny hypoenhancing rounded area interposed between the anterior and posterior pituitary gland is compatible with a very small pars intermedia cyst. This is likely incidental. Dedicated imaging of the orbits and optic nerves before and after contrast administration demonstrates a normal appearance of the globes and intra-orbital structures. There is normal enhancement of the extra-ocular muscles, and no abnormal signal or enhancement in the optic nerves, chiasm, optic tracts, or orbital fat. There is no intra-ocular lesion, and the lenses appear normal. There is mild mucosal thickening in the maxillary sinuses. Thank you for the help.
