I am 40 y, FEMALE. My Blood report says: Alert!!! RBCs:Moderate anisocytosis mild poikilocytosis. Predominantly microcytic hypochromic cells with ovalocytes, elliptocytes are seen HEMOGLOBIN 10.5 g/dL TOTAL RBC 5.89 X 10^6/µL MEAN CORPUSCULAR VOLUME(MCV) 62.8 fL 83 - 101 MEAN CORPUSCULAR HEMOGLOBIN(MCH) 17.8 pq 27-32 MEAN CORP.HEMO.CONC(MCHC) 28.4 g/dL 31.5-34.5 RED CELL DISTRIBUTION WIDTH - SD(RDW-SD) 39 fL 39-46 RED CELL DISTRIBUTION WIDTH (RDW-CV) 18.9 % 11.6-14 I am Beta Thalassemia Minor - is this normal then? also IRON PHOTOMETRY 38.9 µg/dl TOTAL IRON BINDING CAPACITY (TIBC) PHOTOMETRY 405 µg/dl % TRANSFERRIN SATURATION CALCULATED 9.6 % I am Beta Thalassemia Minor - is this normal then? What shud I do?
Hi. I have gone through your laboratory report and I can understand your concerns. As per your report it suggest the presence of "microcytic hypochromic anemia" It means the size and iron content of your RBC (Red Blood Cells) is on a lower side. Its quite common in thalassemia patients.You are having thalassemia minor which is relatively harmless compared to thalassemia major. There is nothing to worry in this results because its a common pattern in thalssemics.If you have symptoms and signs of anemia you might require blood transfusion. There is no need of any intervention or treatment as of now.If you have any symptoms please consult your treating physician. Hope this helps.
