Are Muscle Spasms A Side Effect Of Low Sodium Diet?
I started a low sodium diet a few days ago taking in about 1500mg i was consuming around 6000mg before i do have high blood pressure and need to get it under control. My question is now im having really bad muscle spasms could this be do to the change in my salt intake if so what will help?
It is very likely related to the decrease in sodium intake, low sodium levels are one of the more common causes of muscle cramps.
Abnormalities in other electrolytes (calcium and potassium) or dehydration can also cause cramps but if they only started since the reduction in sodium intake, this is more likely.
You may want to consider taking a very small amount of salt when the cramps occur, to see if this helps.
I hope this helps
