Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are My Symptoms Related To Dermatomyositis Or Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
I have recently been experiencing humming and vibration like sensations in both my legs, fee and groins. I had a skin biopsy that showed possibly dermatomyositis / mixed connective tissue disease. I am wondering if this could be related to dermatomyositis or another disorder like Guillian - Barre syndrome. I can t find anything on the internet associating DM with nerve involvement. My doctor know very little about DM and my Reumatologist brushed me off (that was before the biopsy results were back).
Dermatomyositis usually does not occur alone, it is mostly associated with any malignancy.
I am afraid to tell you that it is possible to have neuropathies along with dermatomyositis as a part of a bigger spectrum, para-neoplastic syndromes associated with some occult malignancy.
I suggest you visit your doctor to run tests for occult malignancy and get your appointment done with rheumatologist and oncologist again.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
