Are Nodules On The Thyroid Gland A Cause For Concern?
I have had a sore throat with a cough for over 2 months. I have completed steroids and antibiotics during the first couple of weeks, the sore throat and cough remain. Dr s ordered a cat scan that indicated nodules on the tyroid and I am waiting for an ultra scan approval. (mom has a history of thyroid cancer ) Is this sore throat normal ? it s very irritating and I m exhausted by 2 pm everyday at work. ??
If your sore throat not improving, then further work up needed in form of: -CBC -Throat swab for culture
If the culture shows any positive organism, then according to culture, an antibiotic can be prescribed.
Liver, Spleen palpation should be done and if needed, infectious mononucleosis can be ruled out by Elisa Monospot test for it and by CBC with peripheral smear examination.
For thyroid nodule to rule out nature of lesion FNAC or biopsy for histopathology examination can be planned. Consult physician for examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
