Are Numbness And Pain In The Leg, Long After A Fracture, Due To Arthritis?
I broke my tibia and fibula about 25 years ago, left leg about halfway up. it was not compound, but it did almost come out. The break was diagonal across the bone. there were no screws or plates put in. From time to time, it just aches terribly, there is obviously some nerve damage there too, because some spots are super sensitive and others are kind of numb. On the inside part there is what feels like a dent in the bone, like where the callus would have been and i have to get my wife to kinda massage it to reduce pain. Is this like arthritis or possibly that the bone didn t heal correctly?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I have read through your details and in my opinion ,you have damaged some fine nerves in the leg at the time of fracture. So these supersensitive spots are present. Also I feel that probably your fracture has not united in anatomical position ,so feel dent at one place . Arthritis is seen in the joints and not in the leg as such. I suggest that you start gabapentin and mild pain killers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
