Are Pus Cells In The Urine Of An Infant A Matter Of Concern?
Hi, my baby 10 months old. We conducted urine test in that the pus cells are 12-14. Doctor said it is infection. He said give her water continuously it will set. Is it k? What I have to do? Please suggest me. Is it any major issue. Please give some remedies.
Hello, Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic. I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
It is true that puss cells (leucocytes) in the urine of a child might be a urinary infection and in this case it is important to have a urine culture to confirm infection and the cause of it and which is the bacteria causing it. Also the urine culture tells us which antibiotic will help in case there is bacteria growing in the culture.
This is important to be investigated and treated properly so please make sure you have the urineculture done and start treatment guided by its results. Drinking plenty is advisable but less likely to resolve the infection spontaneusly in that age. After treatment you will need to have repeat urinalysis to verify that infection is cleared. If infection recurs than ultrasound and other tests to check the child's kidneys are recommended.
I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to contact us in case more clarification is needed on this.
Kind regards
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
