Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Pus Filled Spots In Throat A Cause For Concern?
I ve been having a sore throat of late and I noticed what looks to be a tonsil remnant on one side of my throat in the back (looks just like remnants I ve seen in pictures). I saw two white spots on the surface so I pressed a wet q-tip against the tissue and some pus was expressed with a little blood on the q-tip. Does this mean I need to see my doc, get a culture, etc. or will this resolve on its own?
Hi You need to see your Doctor as soon as possible to examine your throat and culture the pus coming out as a course of antibiotics will be necessary. It is a throat infection that should not be taken lightly given your description.Sore throat is mostly caused by viruses and symtomatic management will do.But a purulent discharge as in your case signifies bacteria infection and antibiotics will be necessary. wish you a quick recovery
