Are Rapid Heart Beats, Breathlessness And Headache After Smoking Marijuana Signs Of Stroke?

LAST NIGHT MY SON SMOKED MARIJUANA, 4 HITS. AFTER THAT HIS HEART RATE INCREASED SEVERELY, THE WHOLE RIGHT SIDE OF HIS BODY GOT TEMPORARILY PARALYZED, AND HE COULDN T BREATHE. HE ACTUALLY THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DIE. YET, HE DIDN T WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND TODAY HE S FEELING FUNNY AND HAS A TERRIBLE HEADACHE. HE DOES BELIEVE HE HAD A STROKE. I SHOULD MENTION THAT HE HAS BEEN ABUSING WEED FOR A LONG TIME NOW. THE AMOUNT OF WHAT HE SMOKED YESTERDAY IS ACTUALLY HALF OF WHAT HE USUALLY USES, ACCORDING TO HIM. MY QUESTIONS IS, ANY IDEA OF WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM?

Hi,

Heart rate is controlled both by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Stress, anxiety, fever and few other extrinsic factors are known to increase heart beat.

So if you have a rapid heart rate during anxiety, that is completely normal. Everyone has it. But let me know if you have frequent such episodes. The cause may be an anxiety disorder or rarely a preexisting heart condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
