Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 86 year old mother, who is in assisted living, was prescribed furosemide a few day ago to reduce swelling of legs, as well as wearing TED hose. She has since developed a rash on right lower leg then next day both lower legs and has a "new" dry cough. Should I be concerned that this is reaction to medication?
Hello. The symptoms that you refer are probably due to allergy to Furosemide. It is recommended to discontinue Furosemide,to replace by another diuretic (Spironolactone for example) and take an antihistamine for a few days (for example Ebastine 10 mg twice a day) to treat rash. I wish you good health. (If the answer has helped you, please indicate this)
