Are Recurring Trance Like Episodes With Burning Feeling Normal While Having Parkinson S?

My 82-year-old Mother, who suffers from Parkinsonism, has had 4 to 5 trance-like episodes, in which she can fall as her legs will not move because she is zoned-out . Only other symptom is she also says she wakes up feeling hot inside like her insides are burning.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Trans like episodes or seizures in elderly people suffering from Parkinson's disease can be indicative of neurodegenerative diseases. Neurotoxic effects or seizures are commonly triggered by influx of calcium in the neurons and intensification of glutamate pathways. Burning feeling is suggestive of developing neuropathy.

You are suggested to get her clinically examined by a neurologist. Get her required blood tests, imaging tests, biopsy of the nerves, etc., done so that she can be treated. She will be referred to a GP for further management of her symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
