Are Red Painful Lumps On The Tonsils Due To Strep?

I have a severe sore throat and if you examine my throat you see a lot of dark red and on my left tonsil there is a maroon colored lump the size of a pea that is especially painful. I do not see any white dots but I do see tiny red dots above my tonsils but they hard to see. do I have strept?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain red lumps on tonsils along with pain and small tiny dots in throat are all due to throat infection and the most common cause for them is bacterial infection, although they can occur due to viral infection also..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised to suck throat lozenges and chew Vitamin C pellet..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and sip on warm water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
