Are Removal Of Appendix And Severe Acid Reflux Problems Related?
My grand daughter had her appendix out after it burst and since then has had serious acid reflux to the point of having increase black spots on the back teeth from acid arosion. Is there a connection to this and the removal of her appendix. She was 3 and a half years old when this happened.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I have read your description and understand your concern. Removal of appendix would not lead to acid reflux problems. Appendix is a small vestigial organ present at the junction where small intestine ends and large intestine begins (colon) lower down the abdomen and below the diaphragm. Hence, it has no connection to be associated with acid reflux disorders occurring in the stomach. Kindly get your child evaluated by consulting Paediatrician to know what could be the cause for such symptoms, so that it can be treated accordingly. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S. MBBS., MD.
