Are Second Dosage Of Antibiotics Advisable For Recurring White Sores In Throat?

2 weeks ago I went to the doctor for a really terrible sore throat with white sores and inflammation. I was prescribed cefadoxril for 5 days. It got significantly better to the point that I thought it was gone, but now 3 days after finishing my course of antibiotics my sore throat and the white sores are returning. I'm traveling abroad and antibiotics are just sold over the counter here. I am curious as to if I should take antibiotics again and how long I should take them? I've purchased azithromycin tablets (500mg) as I won't be around any pharmacies for the next 4 days or so and wanted to have them just in case. Is this ideal?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you had a severe case of strep throat leading to sore throat and white sores that seems to be pus pockets and are seen commonly due to bacterial [Streptococcous] infection.
As you took the antibiotic just for 3 days there seems to be lingering of the infection that has got re activated again..
Nothing to worry as it will get resolved soon..
You can very much take Azithromycin for 5 days as it is effective antibiotic for throat infection.
Along with it you should also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve inflammation and pain..
You should do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day..
You should do steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
Suck throat lozenges and sip warm water..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
