Are Seizures In A Massive Heart Attack Patient A Cause For Concern?

My friend, 60 year old male suffered a massive heart attack this past Sunday 2/19/17. He s now at the Hospital in ICU in a medically induced come due to him having seizures. I don t know anything about medicine. Why are they doing this? What s his survival chances? Brain damage? How long will he be in this state?

Hello! I'm sorry for your friend. Massive heart attack is a high risk and life-threatening situation. Regarding your question, I can say from my clinical experience, that seizures are not a good prognostic sing in the patient that has done massive heart attack. In this case seizures reflect the brain hypoxia. I can say that his situation is delicate. However, without knowing other clinical parameters of your friend it is difficult to tell how long he will be in this state. But I can say that everything depends on cardiac recovery and brain situation.
I hope that everything will go well!
