Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Severe Abdominal Pain, Fatigue And Weight Loss Symptoms Of Cancer?
61 year old female. rapid unexplained weight loss (over 30 lbs. over 6-8 months). 6 weeks ago UTI Tx in ER antibiotic cephalexin 500 mg 3 x day for 10 days. Stopped antibiotic after 8 days. UTI symptoms gone. Continue ill: severe stomach pain, weak seriously feel fatigue, unable to function, unable to eat due to stomach pain and mouth sores--fever blisters. General body aches and pain. Some watery BM. Can this be cancer or diabetes?
Rapid weight loss in an elderly person requires detailed evaluation, and you are right, it could be one of the presenting symptoms for cancer.
However, fever and blisters are not common in cancer, if I were your treating doctor, I would like to examine her and look for following clues that narrow down the causes:-
1. Family history of cancer
2. Any swelling/lump in the body
3. Any diarrhea/constipation
4. cough/breathlessness
5 History of smoking/alcohol
Also, I would like to do imaging like PETCT scan which looks for cancerous cells in the body. Kindly get yourself evaluated for the same.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
