Are Severe Pain In Jaw,cheek For A Prolonged Period Be Trigeminal Neuralgia Or Cluster Headaches?
I have been having excruciating pain in my jaw, cheek and feels like my tooth is going to explode. The pain also radiates up to my temple and to my lower jaw. It starts off as dull pain with waves of ice pick stabbing pain that lasts for maybe a min before going back to just a dull achy pain. This has been going on for about a year now and is only on the left side and the symptoms are exactly the same every time. Been to the dentist and my doctor recently, I was wondering if this could be Trigeminal Neuralgia or cluster headaches or something else. I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 3 1/2 yrs ago
Cluster headache is unlikely as you do not mention symptoms like eye redness and lacrimation, stuffed nostril, droopy eyelid which accompany cluster headache.
Also, bouts usually last for weeks or months with periods of remission, while you have been having them for a year.

Are Severe Pain In Jaw,cheek For A Prolonged Period Be Trigeminal Neuralgia Or Cluster Headaches?
Hello, Cluster headache is unlikely as you do not mention symptoms like eye redness and lacrimation, stuffed nostril, droopy eyelid which accompany cluster headache. Also, bouts usually last for weeks or months with periods of remission, while you have been having them for a year. Trigeminal neuralgia, on the other hand, is possible, it can also happen with multiple sclerosis, so I suggest you discuss it with your neurologist. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
