Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Severe Pain In Leg And Shin Bone A Sign Of Cancer?
My Doctor found a spot on my hip with an xray last week , I have been having leg pain for over a year/ shin bone hurts all the time also he said I will need a hip replacement but needs to find out what the spot is first, could that be something besides cancer?
Thank you for your question. I understand your concerns.
Firstly I would advise you to calm down as bone cancer can not be diagnosed on X-rays alone and furthermore a spot on your hip bone does not mean cancer. A spot on your hip considering that you also need hip replacement surgery is most probably an osteophyte (bony growth that is associated with catilage disorders and degeneration).
As for the shin bone, I personally would investigate an Osgood–Schlatter disease (condition that fits your shaft bone pain description) that can be clearly seen on a plain Xray.
Do you have any X-rays we can take a look at together (the hip and shaft bone)... More information will make me able help you further.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Best Regards,
