Are Shadows Found In The Uterus A Cause For Concern?
Hello there... my mother was just informed by her gynecologist that there appears to be a shadow near the lining of her uterus...the uterine lining it thin, but the doctor has ordered a sonar ultrasound to investigate further. I m concerned...should she be? My mother is 71 yrs of age and ovarian cancer is in her family history!
Noted the history about your 71 year old Mother who was told by her Gynecologist about a shadow in uterine lining, asked for Ultrasonography, there is history of ovarian cancer in family, wants to know how much concerned one should be. Shadow in uterus at the age of 71 is definitely a cause of concerns. This needs to be investigated as soon as possible to rule out cancer. This can be done by the following ways. Hysteroscopy and biopsy. CT scan of abdomen or MRI as it can tell what the shadow is likely to be. All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and hence the proper management. This can be in the form of surgery if required. Get the things done asap.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
