Are Slight Hypochromic Red Blood Cells With Moderate Anisopoikilocytosis As Per A Blood Test Report A Concern?

Hi doctor.my nephew 3 years old had his peripheral blood smear. The result is slight hypochromic red blood cells with moderate anisopoikilocytosis(macrocytes&elliptocytes). White blood cells population shows lymphocytic predominance. No toxic granules seen. Platelet count is adequate. Is this an early signs of leukemia? Thanks

Hello dear friend..I have gone through your question..
The peripheral smear shows features of iron deficiency anaemia..Lymphocytic predominance can be seen following a viral infection..Your platelets are also adequate in number..
My advice is ..the patient should be investigated for the cause of anaemia..most common can be nutritional deficiency..
other causes can be worm infestation, occult blood loss, drug induced,bleeding.
Nothing in this peripheral smear report point towards a diagnosis of leukaemia.
