Are Sore Throat And White Spots On Throat Sign Of Strep Infection?

I woke up with a sudden sore throat that has developed slowly throughout the day. I would think it was a simple cold but there is a long white patch running along one side of my throat. Is this an indication I should go in for a strep test? I ve heard sometimes you can jump too early on getting a strep test. It is always difficult to figure out what to do on a weekend...

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain long white patch running along one side of my throat with throat pain seems to be probably due to a severe case of bacterial throat infection known as Strep Throat..
White patch can be a pus pocket secondary to infection..

Consult an ENT Expert and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture can be diagnostic..
You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -----Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
