Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Sore Throat, Fever, Sweating And Headache Symptoms Of An STD?
Sore throat, high fever, breaking out in sweats but chilled, headache, tonsils swollen. Went to doctor and was tested for mono, strep, and flu but all were negative. The doctor said it is either a virus or tonsillitis. I was given a shot and penicillin Gave unprotected oral Saturday night, but started showing symptoms yesterday. Is there a chance it is a STD? All of my symptoms seem like tonsillitis and it looks like it too but always a chance. Can you help ease my worry?
You have been thoroughly examined clinically by your doctor and has very aptly diagnosed as a case of tonsillitis and/or virus (mostly 'flue').
Viral infections are usually self limiting if no superadded bacterial infection sets in. Since you have landed in tonsillitis, the bacterial infection has already set in. So the ideal treatment for such condition is antibiotics with hot gargles and hot drinks. Avoid any chilled food articles.
If you have given an oral sex to someone, there is always a chance that you may catch fresh STD if the partner is having any type of STD. It is better that you confide this history to your physician and get clinical examination and laboratory investigations done accordingly.
Since you have been given Penicillin, mostly any chance of your STD will be covered as most of the STDs respond to Penicillin.
I hope this gives you the message.
