I am 66 years old and been on hormone replacement 8 years now. Was on a low dose pill. Now on low dose combi patch. For about five months noticed like it was that time of the month and would have swollen, very tender breasts. Lasts one week and back to normal. Early Dec.my gyn put me on the patch just once a week rather than twice. Still no breakthrough so I thought and six weeks later seem fine and no more problems so I thought. Last mammogram was 1 1/2 yrs ago. I just had one last Tuesday and results came back that I have fibrocystic breasts mostly the right one. Seems a shadowy spot is in the 9 0 clock position and I need another mammogram and ultrasound to determine further what this is. The nurse that called said it is not cancer. What I would like to know does eating soy or soy products for 10years (twice weekly) and being on hormones increase the chances of fibroids? Also I drink mostly decaf but some teas I like have caffine and I drink max a 1/2 cup of half caf coffee with extra water in it each day. I also like chocolate and eat a small pc daily. piece daily. I eat red meat once a week. Does all this contribute to the problem? Should I strongly consider going off the hormone patch? I have been on it because my symptoms were moderately severe. With one patch weekly though i am doing quite well. Your input is appreciated! Thank you.
