Are Superficial And Intermediate Squamous Cells Admixed With Sheets Of Neutrophils Along With Mild Reactive Atypia A Concern?

Hii, this is regarding my mother s recent pap test. She is 54 and a cervical cancer survivor. Treated her with chemotherapy and radiotherapy last year. Now she is recovered . Her recent pap test indicates that two smears examined show superficial and intermediate squamous cells admixed with sheets of neutrophils. Mild reactive atypia noted in cells. No dysplastic cells present. Please explain.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Presence of sheets of neutrophils indicates that there is an infection in the cervix.

Good thing is to hear is no dysplastic cells, so there is no recurrence of cancer.

For infection you has to use antibiotic course.

My suggestion is please consult gynecologist for antibiotic course..

Other than infection there is nothing to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
