Are Swelling And Bruising On The Shin Despite A Normal X-ray A Concern?
I was in a car accident on Sunday. They took an X-ray on my shin as it hit the dashboard. Nothing is broke but still a bump. Yesterday I noticed bruising down by my ankle but no pain just a little swelling. Tonight a lot of swelling and still bruising but no pain in foot area. Should I be concerned
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since the x-ray investigations have revealed normal findings, you shouldn't be worrying too much about it. Swelling and bruising is common when ever there is trauma to a soft tissue. It will take 2 to 3 days to relieve swelling. Try to elevate your affected leg using a pillow underneath when you sleep. This will reduce the swelling early. You will be fine soon, nothing to worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Suhas Chauhan
