Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Swollen Glands Around The Neck Of A Child Suggestive Of Mumps?
I have a 12 yr old daughter with swollen glands in her neck, under her chin, swollen lymph notes on the back of her head near her ear, low grade fever. Under her chin is swollen and painful she says. Could this be the mumps even if she the immunization? +
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that swollen glands in neck, under the chin and near the ear along with low grade fever seems to be most probably due to viral infection but is not due to mumps that causes bilateral swelling on cheeks due to infection in parotid gland..
I would therefore suggest you to consult a Paediatrician and get her evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood test can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now you can give her Acetaminophen to reduce fever and along with it do cool compresses over the glands.. Make her do warm saline gargles.. Give her vitamin C pellets to chew.. Give her a soft diet and plenty of rest..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
