Are Tests To Measure Calcium In The Bones And In The Blood Different?
Are there different tests to measure calcium in bones and calcium in blood? I am looking at results from a March 2017 CMP calcium level and it is within normal limits (9.5). I recently broke some toe bones and osteoporosis may be the cause. A different doctor wants me get PTH and CTX tests along with CBC and CMP. Stephanie

General & Family Physician, Dr. Sasi Kala's Response
Hello,
Only the calcium levels in blood can be estimated. X-rays help in diagnosing the bone thinning - osteopenia (cause might involve calcium deficiency) and other deformities.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
