Are There Any Alternate Medications Of Janumet For Diabetes?

I take Janumet, along with a separate dose of metformin. The Janumet is very expensive and I can t afford to keep up with the cost of Janumet, my, by far, most expensive medication for type 2 diabetes.Would it be cheaper to the two drugs not combined into 1 tablet? Is there something else that has the same effects as Januvia but lower costs?Linda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Januvia or sitagliptin is a dpp4 inhibitor preferred over sulfonylurea in diabetes mellitus. Sulphonylurea are very cheap but long term out come is not satisfactory. But you can consider taking another drug group thiazolidinediones which is also cheaper after discussing with your treating doctor. Combination of metformin and thiazolidinediones like pioglitazone can be taken.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
