Are There Any Tests To Check Whether A Tumor Is Benign Or Malignant?
Hi, I am sooooo scared. I am a 63 year old woman and had my first colonoscopy 2 weeks ago. 3 polyps were found and removed and a tumor in the cecum was discovered. A biopsy was done and all came back benign. I had a consultation with a surgeon for removal of the cecal tumor and he shocked me by saying the tumor was the size of a golf ball and there is a 50/50 chance it is malignant. I contacted my family Dr. who received a report and he said the tumor was small, and I also contacted the Dr. who preformed the colonoscopy and he said his guesstimate would be dime sized. Needless to say, I have an appointment with another surgeon for a second opinion, but that is 3 weeks away. I have no idea of who to believe. YYYY@YYYY Thank you.

Are There Any Tests To Check Whether A Tumor Is Benign Or Malignant?
Hello, From your description, I can understand the trauma and confusion you are undergoing. A definite test to see for malignancy is an FDG-PET scan. I know this is a costly test, so no doctor has advised till now. Some tumor markers can also indicate malignancy. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
