Are There Any Tests To Determine Scope For Further Growth In Height?
Hello Doctor,
i would like to know if there are any tests which can detect whether a person can grow taller. That is, are there any methods to certify that a person has the potential to grow taller any more. I heard that on checking the gap in the bones a doctor can recommend some harmone drugs which might trigger growth of height only if they are able to detect gaps in between bones. Please advise whether this is correct and if so, then where and how are these tests conducted. Say this is for a person who is 18+. Thanks. Lata S
Hi lata, It seems from the history that you want to further increase your height. During the growing period, there is a gap between the bones at the end of each bone, called epiphyseal plate (epiphysis and metaphysis). Epiphysis is the growing end of the bone. Until it is not fused with metaphysis, the person will have a growing period. However, after 18+, the potential to grow is limited as it would fuse around the age of sixteen. Surgical methods are present, but carry unwarranted unpredictable complications and to be avoided. Its usually done in variation in limb sizes. You can try to improve your nutrition along with jogging and skipping. It might help. Any further queries, happy to help again.
