Are Varied Dosages Of Famciclovir Advisable For Shingles?

I had shingles but didn t take the medication within 72 hours ( thought it was a sort of food allergy at the beginning), later went to see doctor who gave me famciclovir tablet at 250 mg 3 times a day (in another country) for 7 days. Now my doctor gave me 500 mg dosage 3 times a day for another 3 days. My question is Should I take the same dosage as before or the 500 mg for 3 more days? Or does it make any difference if I don t take any? Thanks. Hope

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The dosage can be varied depending on the severity of the disease or lesions. 500 mg is the standard dose recommended and you can take half dosage if lesions are mild.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
