Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Vision Problems Caused By Rituximab Intake Reversible?
a few years ago i took galena. after about 10 days, i began having trouble with my eyesight and my ophthalmologist took me off it immediately and told me never to take it again. Now I am supposed to start an infusion of rituximan. It has same possible side effect. If that side effect happens again, will damage be reversible? or is it degeneration?
Rituximab is a class of drug known as biologics used for many diseases. Like most of the drugs, even biologics have side effects.
Rituximab does have multiple eye side effects. Mostly they are reversible like conjunctivitis, transient ocular edema or transient vision impairment.
But this is in a very small percentage of patients. And there is also a small chance of permanent eyesight deterioration.
As these problems have a small chance to happen and most of them being temporary therefore there will not be an issue as long as you keep in touch with your primary physician and an ophthalmologist in case of a problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Talal Hussain, General & Family Physician
