Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Watery, Frequent Stools Normal While Being Due For Gallbladder Removal Surgery?
I have a schedule surgery in two weeks for gallbladder removal because of sludge in the gallbladder. But in the mean time I cannot keep anything down and have to rush to the restroom as soon as I eat something. My stool is very loose and watery. Is this normal with sludge.
Hi, Biliary sludge can cause mild to severe complications like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or biliary colic, cholecystitis pancreatitis etc. Watery diarrhea are not directly related to this sludge but it might have shown some other complication so,immediately contact your surgeon. You might have irritable bowel syndrome or acute gastroenteritis or duodenitis etc. You must undergo routine blood, urine and stool examination, liver function tests with x-ray abdomen or ultrasound of abdomen. You will have to take antibiotics ( quinolones with antiprotozoals) with antispasmodic and antacids with other symptomatic treatment. You must consult your operating surgeon for further advise urgently. Thanks.
