Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was eating a Guava and half way through eating them, I noticed a live worm. These Guavas grew in the backyard of my home and I only use natural manure from vegetable wastes. Are worms in fruits harmless in most cases? Is worms in fruits normal? Thanks in advance! Vinodh
Hi Vinodh, Thanks for writing to HCM. I understand your concern. Worms, if any, in fruits like guava are very small and these worms and their eggs are readily destroyed in the stomach within minutes after they are ingested. There is sufficient amount of Hydrochloric acid and that the environment in your stomach is very acidic. Hence, worms and their eggs would be destroyed completely, even after it is eaten by mistake. Please do not worry about it as it will not harm your body in any way. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
