Are Zoning Out, Unresponsiveness And Listlessness Caused By TIA?

My mom is 1 month away from turning 94. A care giver at her independent living faclity is not sure if she is having TIAs. How can we tell for sure? She says she zones out does not respond to her name, is listless and snaps right back in 10 min? Is there anything else it could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The only way to diagnosis a Thromobo ischemic attack is to get her MRI brain done.

Considering her age and the symptoms you have described there is a high chance that she has developed Alzheimer's disease which also causes transient episodes of zoning out.

I would advise you to get her assessed by a neurophysician who will do a thorough clinical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nazma.amman, General & Family Physician
