Autistic Child, History Of Malabsorption Of Fat, Had Difficulty Gaining Weight, Green Stool. What Is It?
Hello, I feel ridiculous asking this question but before I bother my pediatrician Ill throw it out there. I have an 11 year old son with autism, global delay and a history of malabsorption of fat / failure to thrive. He spent six years on Creon 5 and was discharged from GI with normal stools and better growth at the age of 8. Recently he has had difficulty gaining weight again - since Oct. 2011 has gained a pound and a half (he currently weighs 60 lbs). I have been wondering about GI issues cropping up again but saw nothing to concern me until he went to the bathroom today. His stool was covered in something that looked like bright green fuzz. He has had nothing green to eat in the last couple days. Is this something of concern? Thank you

Autistic Child, History Of Malabsorption Of Fat, Had Difficulty Gaining Weight, Green Stool. What Is It?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Green stool may be because of infection of intestines. I advise you to give stool for routine, microscopy, culture after consulting your doctor to look for any infection. Has he evaluated for malabsorption of fats? Stool should be given for fat globules, pancreatic enzyme assay in the process of evaluation of malabsorption. Consult your pediatrician for further evaluation and treatment. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
