My 3 month old had loose green bowel movements about 3-5 times a day. This was 2 weeks back. Doc advised routine stool test. Physical examination shows yellow color liquid consistency with pH of 5.0 acidic. Frank blood, mucous and frank pus absent. Microscopic analysis shows 2-5 hpf of pus cell. Doc said its a mild viral infection and will heal on its own. it did temporarily get better. After a week, she had watery stool with blood and foam like gas bubbles. Routine test was repeated. Result shows greenish yellow liquid, acidic 5.0, presence of mucous, nonhemolysed traces of occult blood, RBC 0-2 / hpf and pus cells 20-25/ hpf. This time her doctor said cut down on soy and any animal protein in my diet since it appears like a food allergy. Baby is exclusively breastfed. I am confused because if it was my diet why didn't this happen earlier.
