Balance Have Gone Worse After Thyroid Diagnosis. How To Rectify?
Hi, I have been diagnosed from my gp with underactive thyroids. I had a stroke 7 years ago and have had bad balance since, and since the thyroid diagnosis ,my balance seems to have got worse,to the stage where I cannot walk witout stumbling of falling.
Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
As you know thyroid controls the daily metabolism in all the cells and tissues of our body. The brain and the nervous system also get affected as do other systems, and they slow down in their function. So hypothyroidism might have affected the already weak nervous system due to the stroke, and so does the increase in your bad balance while walking. If I were your doctor, I would advise for a recheck of the thyroid funcition (T3,T4, and TSH), and treat accordingly to make it euthyroid so that the problem does not deteriorate further.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
