Battling With Red Throat, Have Discomfort In Swallowing, Endoscopy Done, Esophagitis Ruled Out. What Could The Cause Be?

hi doc, i ve been battling a red throat with some changes for a couple of months now, some discomfort on swalloving saliva , the tonsils and back of throat showing red all this time. had endoscopy because i have a hiatus hernia but no changes to esophagus , no esophagitis , just the throat is a problem which now gives me a new worry; can a throat get like this by acid reflux without affecting the esophagus OR is this an hpv (have a partner now whom i suspect of this) related developing throat cancer?... been reading a lot online now, somehow the picture fits ... i do get very anxious: i am a 51 year old caucasian. thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
If there is acid reflux there will be tell tale signs in the esophagus.
It is not hpv. do not worry.
You may be suffering from chronic pharyngitis - longstanding throat infection.
You can get a throat swab done to identify the offending organism and a sensitivity test to select the appropriate antibiotic.
In the meantime follow some general measures,
1) Warm salt water gargling.
2) Drink plenty of fluids.
3) Avoid cold foods and air conditioning.
regards, Dr Kishori.
