Big Lump Under The Right Shoulder. Could Not Do The Needle Core Biopsy. Removal Suggested. Should Be Concerned?

My husband has a lump the size of my fist under his right shoulder blade. They tried to do a needle core biopsy, but ended up bending 3-4 needles. They did get a small core out, but they couldn't identify anything definitive. There is some muscle and fatty tissue there. We are now having it removed on Friday. It is not attached to the chest wall, but is attached to the shoulder blade. Is this something I should be very concerned about or could it be just a fatty cyst?

Hello,
Thanks for writing i.
You have written that there is a lump the size of a fist under the right scapula troubling your husband.
I suppose basic investigations like X ray, Ultrasound (if possible) and CT scan have been done. CT scan can tell us if it is fat, bone or watery lump.
I really dont understand why core biopsy could not be done, but since you have written about bent needles, I assume the lump is hard.
If your doctors have decided, then lets wait until the open biopsy is done.
Coming to your concern, if the lump is present from an long time, painless and not a fast growing one, then there are less chances of it being a dangerous one.
You may also get the biopsy slides reviewed by a second pathologist if needed.

Hope this helps.
