Bitten By Dog. No Infection. Strange Smell. What Is It?
Hi, I accidently got bitten by my dog trying to retrieve a chicken bone, she bit down on middle finger just below the nail bed, nail is bruised and a pinkish fluid with quite a strange smell has been coming out of the wound. There is no infection, this happened 5 days ago and the smell has been present since then. Any idea what the smelly fluid is? Thanks Christine Rowe
I would first ask you to get vaccinated if you or your dog is not.
The smelly fluid if oozing it could be a sign of infection , I would suggest you to apply antibacterial cream like BACTROBAN over the wound and observe the wound for any discharge.
The Ointment would surely reduce the infection if present if not it will prevent one.
You could have developed infection at the site of bite and the pink fluid may be the result of collection. You need to take a course of antibiotics. If still the fluid/pus oozes out, consult a surgeon who may do an incision and drainage so the healing is faster.
