Hi thanks for your question.
Black tarry stools are produced by iron and not by magnesium.Since your taking so many drugs even small bleeding from stomach due to these drugs can cause black stool.Stool have started clearing on stopping medication ,so most probably iron was responsible for black stool .
Hope this answerd your question.
The very common reason of black stools is iron supplementation. However tar like stools should be always checked with bleeding from peptic ulcers. To do that, just a simple blood work (with hemoglobin level) should rule it out. If you have also stomach pains, endoscopy should be done.
By the way, just note that taking iron supplements when the blood level of it is enough can cause iron overload and result with its accumulation in many tissues including liver for example. Same is with other supplements.
Protein and calcium overload along with creatine intake can cause serious kidney damage, so I suggest you to discuss your diet with some expert in this matter.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
