i quit smoking 3 weeks ago. I ve been coughing up phlegm w/ black streaks since then but only in the morning. Is this normal? I have not had an x-ray but a doctor said my lungs sound clean from a stethoscope.

REad your prob, smoking is cause of bronhitis, as per your symptoms you have have been suffering from bronchitis so cough occur at morning, for it you shouls do chest physiotherapy only. if cough is untorable then start bronchiodilator after advising your doc. after quite smoking these persist for 6 to 10 month . so do not worry it subside after that period.
welcome to healthcare magic forum it is not normal to have black string in sputum you need to consult pulmonologist avoid smoking ,stress,alcohol it may be due to upper respiratory problem aspergilosis may cause such symptom ,but i dont think it in your case
