Bloodwork Shows Elevated ALT And AST, Low WBC, Positive For Cytomegalovirus. Currently Infected?
Hello, Recently I had blood work done on which I had elevated ALT and AST and low WBC 2,8. Also i was tested positiv for the following viruses: Cytomegalovirus Ab IgG was 2.12, IgM was 0.2 Negative; Epstein-Barr Virus Capsid IgG ab: 3.76 and IgM was 1) I was told that IgM implies the antibody in the blood soon after the exposure and IgG implies the antibody from past exposure, so how do I know if I am currently infected (still infected ) from some of this viruses and why the Parvovirus IgG is so high 7.2....does it mean that I am currently infected ( or this virus is repeated) since my immunity is low? 2) Should I consider Parvovirus B19 DNA, PCR, EBV DNA PCR and Citomegalovirus DNA PCR tests in order to diagnose current infection? 3) How much damage this viruses can do to me if they are current and if they are left untreated? 4) What can I do ? How can I fight them back? I am looking forward to getting your reply. Thank you very much!!!
Hi, Welcome to HCM. IgM antibodies are detected within one week of infection and then later IgG type of antibodies appear in the blood which help to fight against the infection. Cytomegalovirus and Epstein Barr virus are DNA viruses which usually cause infection and remain latent in the body as they are herpes viruses with this unique property. These infections can be reactivated when the patients immunity falls. Current infection can be detected by testing paired samples and rising titre of IgG. All these viruses have an effect on the liver if not treated on time. Please get the infection confirmed and get appropriate therapy. Thanks.
