Bloody Diarrhea. Stool Test Showing Entamoeba Histolytica. Sygmoidoscopy Showing Ulcerative Colitis. Cure?

History of bloody diarrhoea, 6 months back, stool R/E revealed Entamoeba histolytica and treated with a course of Metronidazole and Diloxanide furate. Then symptoms subsided but same problem started 1 and half month back, stool revealed same result, so again took a course of Metron DF and Ciprofloxacin which didnto at all releive the symptoms. Have 2-3 episodes of bloody diarrhoea and severe abdominal cramps. Sigmoidoscopy done and revealed active ulcerative colitis and same was in biopsy, My Doctor prescribed me mesalamine 2 tabs HS but this didnot releive my pain abdomen. Have been taking medicines for 2 weeks , please help

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

You are having moderate ulcerative colitis.

Since you are not responding to mesalamine take a course of steroid (prednisolone) along with mesalamine. And for pain take tablet with combination of tramadola dn paracetamol (Tablet ultracet). One more thing I think you are taking less dose of mesalamine it should be at least 2.4gm in divided doses.
