Bowel Incontinence, Intense Lower Abdominal Pain, GI Issues. Treatment?
Hi, I am a 38 yrs old female with bowel incontinence. My health problems started a year ago with intense lower abdominal pain and and seemingly gyno type issues, had many tests done which were negative. After about 2 or 3 mo of this it turns into GI issues (diarrhea, strange colored stool, and occasional bowel incontinence). The problem seemed to basically resolve (just had occasional issues). Now in the last week it's been nearly constant bowel in tolerance.. I do not have insurance at the present. Thoughts?
Dear user, causes of diarrhea are numerous, first we have to find out whether diarrhea is infective in origin or non-infective. For that stool microscopy and culture is required. If culture is positive appropriate antibiotic is required however if it is non - infective you may need to go in for a battery of tests for malabsorption. Since more than 90% cases of diarrhea are self-limiting, and diagnostic evalution is usually unnecessary so if you are having only mild symptoms such as only change in consistency and frequency of stools without any dehydration or weight loss I would suggest wait and watch and take anti-motility agents like Loperamide along with proper fluid intake, avoid milk products, tea, coffee, alcohol, take soft easily digestible food like banana, soups, rice etc But if you are having severe symptoms like bloody diarrhea, severe dehydration, immediately consult a gastroenterologist.
