Broke Ankle And Snapped Ligaments. Swelled Up And Have Lump After Playing Football. Guidance?
I broke my ankle 3 years ago, chipping a bone on the outside of my ankle and snapping the ligaments. It has always been weak, but playing football 3 weeks ago, I went over on it. The ankle swelled up massively and after RICE, I was left with bruising on the bottom of my foot. However, I played in a football tournament a week ago, and the last few days I have noticed a grape sized soft lump on the outside of my ankle (where I chipped in a few years ago). It is soft and almost feels like there's fluid in it. Any ideas?
Hi and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your querry.
This is common after ankle injuries, there is obviously caspular haematoma or seroma and this is nothing worrying. It can be punctated and aspirated by needle if necessary but it should pull back in few weeks. The most important thing is that there is no bones fracture. Everything else will heal spontaneously. If you have pain you should avoid exercise till it subside. Wish you good health.
